Book Review - Chasing the Valley ~ Skye Melki-Wegner

Chasing the Valley, the debut novel from Melbourne author Skye Melki-Wegner, is the first in a trilogy of action-packed awesomeness.

Randomhouse.com.au description:

Danika is used to struggling for survival. But when the tyrannous king launches an attack to punish her city – echoing the alchemy bombs that killed Danika's family – she risks her life in a daring escape over the city's walls.

Danika joins a crew of desperate refugees who seek the Magnetic Valley, a legendary safe haven. But when she accidentally destroys a palace biplane, Danika Glynn becomes the most wanted fugitive in Taladia.
Pursued by the king's vicious hunters and betrayed by false allies, Danika also grapples with her burgeoning magical abilities. And when she meets the mysterious Lukas, she must balance her feelings against her crew's safety.

The story centres around Danika, a tough, street-smart, risk-taker from the town of Rourton. Danika has lost her family and, when the King bombs her city once again, she makes a life-changing choice to go looking for the Magnetic Valley. Danika meets some colourful characters along the way, my favourite being Teddy whose humour often provides relief when the group is in danger from the King's hunters. Ha, Teddy. Love him. There is a hint of love interest in there too with Lucas, but the main focus is on the journey this group goes through to try and reach the Valley.

Chasing the Valley is a knock-out Fantasy hit for Young Adults. There is no doubt after reading this book that this series is going to be popular. It has it all, action, adventure, magic, witty one-liners and a vivid world. The book is published (and available readily) in Australia but for those overseas, you can grab it through online stores or purchase through your e-reader.
I am soooo excited for the next book!
